MOSAIC SPORT KITES

OCTOBER 2019
INDEPENDENT
INDIVIDUAL

Based on the Revolution quad-line kite, this sail is constructed from ripstop nylon sewn together. I experimented with various geometric and free form patterns, aiming to design a unique kite that would both perform well as a sport kite and provide a striking presence in the sky. Each colored panel reaches into the adjoining colors to convey a sense of motion even while the kite is still, and overlapping the fabric at the seams subtly emphasizes the divisions in the pattern.

This kite was my first independent, complex sail design. After iterating through drawing and creating a scale model, I cut, taped and sewed the final kite together. While building I learned many techniques and strategies to apply in future creations.

Copies of the kite can be attached together and flown as one unit; warm and cool colors play off each other and translucent panels sparkle in the sun as they fly. This design was selected to be exhibited at a regional kite-maker's conference alongside work from nationally recognized kite artists.

Beyond built space, I seek design excellence in other creative pursuits. I enjoy devoting attention to details, construction, performance, and experience.
